Letter 9: The Sea

To A.

I am not surprised if I have been quieter over the last few months. As a seven-year cycle comes to an end there is a quieter phase in which the individual lives more within himself. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, we are not reborn to work but to be worked upon. William Judge wrote in his Letters, "This is an affair of the inner nature." In a seven-year cycle, each human principle is attenuated or tempered in its appropriate year. This process begins to teach the individual what is involved in giving up his life in service. It is a process of untethering the personal self so that nothing holds us. Whatever holds us, we let go. If we fail, it is merely to another sea that one journeys.

As ever, D.
