Letter 24: Looking Back

To A.

If there is one thing I could take back in this life, I would take back that five minutes on the basketball court when I yelled at this boy, demeaned him, and degraded him who was already an outcast. So I sealed my fate to reflect his. Nature teaches us in this way. We don't make mistakes a second time because we already made them a first time. Falling into the arms of a Master isn't about qualifications. They don't correct, they don't discipline, and they don't order. What they do is advise with the full weight of the well-being for the coming life of the recipient in their hearts. It is with this all-embracing, caring concern that I wish I had engaged the boy on the basketball court.

As ever, D.
